VegHead Profile: Luke MacCormick

It’s been awhile since I’ve posted on the blog as the last couple of months have brought graduation from Dickinson College, a move to Philadelphia, and a continuing job search. I’m just beginning my post-college, alumni life, so I think it’s fitting that this VegHead profile is from a friend of mine at Dickinson, Luke.

I’d sum up Luke as a really cool, kind, and chill guy who radiates calmness. He was one of my housemates at the Treehouse the first semester of my senior year, and many days I’d look out of the gym window to see him bike past with his messenger bag and iconic sweater. My friend and housemate Emma and him would go to the weekly Carlisle Farmers’ Market and cook up a meal with their spoils. Luke is spending his summer working on Dickinson’s organic farm in Boiling Springs, PA, and I’m excited to share his profile on how he developed a passion for sustainability and what he’d like to spend his time doing in the future.

VegHead Profile: Maizie Ober

Maizie is a student at Dickinson College who first came to my attention when my campus’s sandwich shop featured a vegan sub suggested by her. The sub was delicious, and I’m really happy to know there’s people out there like Maizie, who produced a short documentary film her senior year of high school called Living the Solution (you can find it here on YouTube). I am personally so excited to see what this woman accomplishes for animals!

We basically grew up together because she has been with me all of my life, and she is the first companion animal I ever had.

VegHead Profile: Joe Benham

Joe, like fellow VegHead Trevor, is another vegan that I’ve been introduced to by Rachel but I’ve actually never met in person (but really want to!). This is one of my favorite VegHead profiles because of the photos of Joe’s animal friends from his time volunteering at an animal sanctuary in France. Who can resist those goats and cows? Keep reading to meet Rhea and Zephyr, the films that influenced Joe’s shift to veganism, and why California rocks Joe’s socks.

Kat and I went to the same high school in Germany, and the only contact we’ve had since is through social media, but our veganism brings us together! VegHead Profile: Rachael Moore

Rachael Moore graduated from Dickinson College in the summer of 2018, and for the year before that she was our house “mom” at the Treehouse, or Center for Sustainable Living, at Dickinson. I think of her as a huge proponent for self-care and wellness, as well as a master of aesthetic sustainability. Read on to learn how being diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes changed Rachael’s relationship with food and our food system, what’s on her travel bucketlist, and the experience that turned her towards vegetarianism.

I think of Trevor as my vegan grandchild – I was a big influence on Rachel’s decision to cut out meat from her life, and Rachel had a crucial conversation with Trevor on animal exploitation that started him on his path to veganism. I’ve never actually met Trevor, but Rachel and him have been friends for years, and the three of us had a pretty active group chat for a couple months. He’s currently pursuing an undergraduate degree in Politics, Philosophy, and Economics (PPE) at Suffolk University. Here are Trevor’s recommendations for vegan eats in Boston, his favorite cookbook, and what made him decide to leave animals off his plate.
